Which e-bike to buy in 2026: what to check on the spec sheet before paying

In 30 seconds

Buying an e-bike online is easy, but incomplete or contradictory spec sheets are common. This guide shows what to check, with examples taken from real listings.

1. Look at the battery, not just the motor

Almost all bikes in this range have a 1,000 W motor. What changes the range is the battery capacity. To compare, multiply the voltage (V) by the capacity (Ah) and you get the value in watt-hours (Wh). A 48V 15.6Ah battery has about 749 Wh. A 48V 18Ah one, about 864 Wh.

2. Beware of "two 20Ah batteries"

Some listings say 20Ah without making clear whether that is the total or per battery. In the first case it's 960 Wh, in the second 1,920 Wh. Ask the seller before buying.

3. Compare range carefully

The number in the listing is the maximum, measured in ideal conditions. Rider weight, terrain, wind and speed reduce that value. When the listing lets you unlock the bike to 48 km/h, the range drops.

4. Check the weight

The same listing may say 37 kg in the spec sheet and 42 kg in the description. A 46 to 60 kg bike is hard to bring indoors or carry up stairs.

5. Check the warranty and who is selling

Some listings state only a 90-day factory warranty. Check whether the seller offers support and whether the listing's rating is consistent.

6. Read the recent reviews

Buyers who just received the bike haven't ridden it yet. Look for reviews from people who have used it for weeks and talk about the points that repeat the most, such as the tire and assembly.

7. Check the legislation

The listings talk about a self-propelled vehicle that needs no driver's license in Brazil. That classification applies to bikes within the limits of the law, and the "unlocked" mode at 48 km/h goes beyond those limits. Check the current rule before riding.

Which to choose

Smaller budget

V9 Max

Good balance of motor, brakes and price.

More range

V9 Max S

For riders who go far, with two 20Ah batteries.

Middle ground

V9 Max with 2 batteries

Two smaller batteries; spec sheet to be confirmed.

New release

V40 Pro

Slightly bigger battery than the V9 Max, few reviews.

Choose by use: your route, the weight you can handle carrying and how much you want to spend. The spec sheet is only useful if you check each number.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate the battery capacity in Wh?

Multiply the voltage by the capacity. Example: 48V x 15.6Ah = about 749 Wh.

Is a 1,000 W motor enough?

For urban use, yes. What sets the bikes apart is the battery, the weight and the quality of the components.

How we did it

Data collected from Mercado Livre and minhaebike.com listings on Oct 16, 2026. Where listings disagree, we show the disagreement instead of picking a value. Capacity in Wh is calculated by multiplying voltage by capacity.
